COMIC WORLD'S TOP THREE PICKS for March 19, 2014

Here we are, another FAB week of new comic book releases by some of the finest writers and artists in the industry!!

As most folks know, I'm not just a comic book store owner, I'm also a lifelong fan and reader of comics! I'm a firm believer that there's a comic book out there for everyone, no matter who you are!!

This week, I've had the chance to look over the new releases, and I've read several new comics, including three that I feel are THIS WEEK'S TOP THREE PICKS!!

My #3 TOP PICK is Batman and Aquaman #29!! The ongoing drama created by the death of Damian Wayne aka Robin keeps building as the stories by Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Mick Gray take new twists and turns. For several issues, Batman was 'teamed' with Two-Face as readers learned the New 52 origin of Harvey Dent's psychotic alter-ego. All the while, the story was leading to the theft of Damian and his mother, Talia Al Ghul's remains by none other than Ra's Al Ghul himself, in a mad attempt to resurrect them! In this issue, as Batman tracks their bodies, he encounters and receives help from Aquaman, who is on the scene seeking Ra's for personal reasons of his own! Great artwork, a well-paced story, and lots of intrigue make this comic one of my Top Three Picks! I can't wait for next issue!

My #2 TOP PICK is All New Invaders #3!! Man, this comic is a lot of fun, and isn't that what reading comics was  always about? In the first issue, we learned that the Kree have attacked Namor The Sub-Mariner, the Original Human Torch and Bucky the Winter Soldier in a bid to retrieve long-buried memories from them that will lead the Kree to pieces of a device designed to dominate the Asgardians! Beautiful art by Steve Pugh has each panel jumping off the page with excitement! This well-crafted story by James Robinson (Earth 2, Fantastic Four) brings Captain America back into the game to rejoin his old teammates in order to defeat the Kree's cosmic plans!! All this *plus* the Golden Age Vision in this latest installment!! I've gotta say, I've really enjoyed Marvel bringing back these Golden Age characters over the past few years!!

This brings me to my #1 TOP PICK which you already know by the cover photo as being BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Season 10 #1 by Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs!! Now, it's no secret I'm a Buffy fan going WAY back, so when Joss Whedon decided to end all the non-canon Buffy, Angel and Spike series and bring everything home to roost under the umbrella of Dark Horse Comics, strictly so he could begin IN-canon Buffy stories following the 7th Season of the TV series, I was pleased as could be!!  Admittedly, Season 8 gave everyone a tumble and fans made unpleasant noises that Joss Whedon took to heart, saying that he realized they had gotten away from the 'feel' of the TV series too much. With Season 9, Buffy was BACK in the purest form, accompanied by "Angel and Faith Season 9" (the season numbering tying in with Buffy as opposed to Angel's own TV series, naturally), with additional mini-series featuring Spike and Willow in their own separate adventures, all of which dovetailed back into the Buffy comic for a wonderful Season 9 conclusion. Now, we begin Season 10, and Buffy is once again hitting new strides, keeping things always changing, never static or boring! There's a new twist to the whole vampire mythos as the series begins, which throws the whole Scooby Gang into a panic! Full of old familiar faces, new baddies, thrills, chills and more, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my FAVORITE New Comic Book Release, my #1 TOP PICK This Week!!
